Anna VOGEL

Introduction

Anna Vogel studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf in Germany. She was a student of the renowned photographers Thomas Ruff and Andreas Gursky, whose work is indebted to the minimalist visual language of the artist couple Bernd and Hilla Becher. In the wake of these photographers, Vogel developed a distinctive, personal visual language.

Vogel combines her own and found photographic images which are altered through digital manipulations and graphic additions or deletions. Using varnish, acrylics, pencil, ink or pigment, she adds expressive touches to the surface of the photographic image. In this way, she creates an experimental language that consists of surreal landscapes and abstract forms.

Anna Vogel already had several solo exhibitions at Deweer Gallery, Otegem, BE (2018), Fuhrwerkswaage Kunstraum, Cologne, DE (2018, after winning the ZONTA Cologne Art Award 2018), Conrads, Düsseldorf, DE (2018), Kunstverein Hildesheim in Hildesheim, DE (2017), Kunstverein Recklinghausen in Recklinghausen, DE (2015) and in Kunstsammlung NRW in Düsseldorf, DE (2014), amongst others.

Aktuelle Fotografie made im Rheinland’, Museum Morsbroich, Leverkusen, DE, ‘Zwischen Nähe und Distanz: Konstruktion von Wirklichkeiten. Von Goya bis Picasso’, in Museum Kunstpalast, Düsseldorf, DE.
