miart

05 April - 08 April 2019

Deweer Gallery will take part in miart, Milan, for the third time. The gallery will present artworks - both historical and recent - that reflect the gallery’s artistic program, investigating in early detection of talent and building long-term relationships. For this year’s edition, the booth examines visual conversations between artists, firstly a mix of upcoming contemporaries as Italian sculptor Luca Monterastelli (b.1983), London-based artist Gabriele Beveridge (b.1985) and Danish-British rising star George Little (b.1988) - they are in supplementary ways connected to the artistic positions Deweer Gallery stands for since 40 years - positions that gravitate between modernism and craftsmanship. New works of Monterastelli, Beveridge and Little will enter into dialogue with sculptures by Stephan Balkenhol (b.1957), e.g. the recent sculpture ‘Frau mit langem schwarzem Abendkleid’ (2018), connecting promising and established artists. Last year work by Monterastelli has been selected by Fondazione Fiera Milano Acquisition Fund to enrich their collection. Sculptural assemblages with hand-blown glass made for miart by Gabriele Beveridge have been sold to the Missoni Collection. Little is each time a real crowd favorite at miart, all his works are always sold out. His work was also noticed at miart by Areacreativa42, the organiser behind the Art Prize CBM, a biennial prize for new talent. Hereby Little was selected from more than 1000 applicants as one of the 20 finalists of the Art Prize CBM, resulting in many exhibitions.

In addition, the booth will combine new paintings/physical collages of George Little with work of Imi Knoebel (b.1940). This will be visually stunning and will underline modernist aspects they have in common, such as repetition, quote, irony and scale. Both artists are investigating the fundamentals of painting: form, colour and material - and their relation to architecture. “No other gallery participating in miart has ever brought works by Knoebel,” Artistic Director of miart Alessandro Rabottini informed us. The work of Little and Knoebel will be confronted with work by Danish artist John Kørner (b.1967), one of the most notable, contemporary artists in Denmark.

Participating artists: Stephan Balkenhol, Gabriele Beveridge, Imi Knoebel, John Kørner, George Little, Luca Monterastelli
